Hill's Pet Nutrition has launched Hill's Prescription Diet Metabolic + j/d, a therapeutic cat food formula designed to address weight management and joint health in a single product.

According to the Association for Pet Obesity Prevention's 2022 State of Pet Obesity Report, 61% of cats evaluated by U.S. veterinary professionals were classified as overweight or obese. Excess weight can negatively affect mobility and quality of life.

The formula combines the company's existing j/d and Metabolic nutritional platforms. It features omega-3 fatty acids to support joint health and is formulated to activate metabolism for weight loss. Hill's reports that 88% of pets lost weight within two months at home when fed Metabolic nutrition alone, and that the new product is clinically shown to improve cats' ability to run, jump and play in as little as one month.

Key features of the formula include omega-3 fatty acids to help reduce inflammation, nutrients to support joint cartilage health, and a fiber blend intended to support satiety.

"At Hill's, we're constantly researching and innovating to provide veterinarians with tools to deliver the best care possible for their patients," said Dr. Chelsie Estey, U.S. chief veterinary officer at Hill's. "This therapeutic innovation can dramatically improve quality of life for our feline companions. Pet parents should consult their veterinarian to learn more about Hill's Prescription Diet Metabolic + j/d and decide if it's the right nutrition for their pet."
